Crazy happy best describes this Toronto pair. Anisa and Elijah share a love of travel and impromptu dancing. Life a little outside the expected. So when they decided to elope, they wanted the kind of wedding that nobody would expect. But what?
After a lot of online searching, they decided a Moraine Lake wedding out in the remote mountains of western Canada would really be stepping outside their comfort zone. Perfect! The Canmore and Banff areas would make an amazing and unexpected location for a destination wedding. The towering, craggy peaks of the Rocky Mountains and emerald-green waters of their alpine lakes offer some truly gorgeous scenery, and would make a breathtaking backdrop.
Anisa and Elijah flew into Calgary from Toronto in early September. As they passed through the city, we took the opportunity to schedule a quick meeting in person to get to know them a little better and discuss the wedding day. Naturally their wedding was going to be combined with a small vacation. As it was their first visit out west they planned to spend some time exploring the mountains.
Getting Ready and First Look in Canmore
On their wedding day, we joined Anisa and Elijah at their hotel in Canmore. While they both stayed in the same room, it had a loft so they could separate themselves and not see each other prior to their first look. We filmed first Elijah, then Anisa getting ready, both in their room and in the rustic hotel lobby.
René Michaud of Bliss Photographic stepped out from behind the camera for a few minutes and showed his talents as a makeup artist. You pick up a lot working with other professionals! Danielle from Something New Banff also was there, helping Anisa get into her wedding dress, and making sure everything ran smoothly.
Anisa had done a lot of research on scenic wedding locations, and really liked what she had seen of the historic Canmore Engine Bridge over the Bow River. With its amazing background of mountains she thought it would make the perfect location for their First Look. As is almost always the case, it’s an emotional moment, and you could see the love and happiness radiating from these two when they saw each other for the first time on their wedding day.
A Moraine Lake Wedding
First Look in Canmore complete, we headed west into Banff National Park for Anisa and Elijah’s Moraine Lake wedding. Although an overcast day, the clouds created a beautiful, soft diffuse light for their lakeside wedding ceremony, presided over by the affable Robert Rooney.
After exchanging their heartfelt personal vows, it was time to spend a few hours getting some photos and video of the happy couple. These do enjoy little impromptu dances, and they featured throughout the day. We started along the shores of Moraine Lake with a First Dance, the extraordinary mountains of the Valley of the Ten Peaks behind and a curious raven watching.
Elopement ceremony and “first dance” complete, we headed back along the forest trail toward Moraine Lake Lodge. Finally we climbed up the well-fashioned trail to the top of the rock pile, overlooking the lake. Stunning views of fabulous mountain peaks abound in every direction, contrasting with the mesmerizing turquoise coloured waters of Moraine Lake itself. It’s hard to get a bad shot here.
Once we’d finished filming their Moraine Lake wedding ceremony, Anisa and Elijah told us they’d like to get a few photos and some video at Lake Louise. We were happy to oblige, and followed them back down the winding hill to the Chateau. We wrapped up the day with some more dancing footage and a few romantic shots of this very happy Toronto couple.
