Ranch Wedding in the Rocky Mountain Foothills
Having a ranch wedding in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains provided a gorgeous backdrop for Brittney and Kolton’s wedding. Despite a high-profile career that took her to the big city, Brittney remained a farm girl at heart. So it was only natural that she had fallen in love with a farm boy. After years of a long-distance relationship and numerous moves, they both finally found themselves in southern Alberta and able to move ahead with their marriage plans.
A Country Wedding
We’d met Kolton and Brittney few years before, while filming her friend Samantha’s (who was one of the Brittney’s bridesmaids) wedding near Ponoka. On their day, Kolton chose to get ready at the 100-year-old family farm just east of Nanton, while Brittney and her bridesmaids had hair and makeup done at the Blake Ranch house, a short walk to the field where the wedding ceremony was going to take place.
We started the day with Kolton, filming him getting ready, a little bit of his family relaxing together, and a short interview. It was shaping up to be a beautiful day. Groom preps complete, we headed out, passing through Nanton and crossing the Porcupine Hills before arriving at the Blake Ranch. Nestled in the Foothills west of highway 22, it’s a stunning location, with the front range of the Rocky Mountains visible in the distance.

Blake Ranch Wedding Ceremony
By early afternoon it had turned into a very hot, sunny day, so we were all thankful for the stiff breeze that was blowing across the field as Brittney and Kolton began their outdoor ceremony. A family friend who had sung at Brittney’s parents’ 30-years earlier was there, singing again at hers, adding a nice touch. Plenty of refreshments were also thoughtfully made available to the hot and thirsty guests. Family photos followed immediately after the ceremony, with everyone remaining on location.

Wedding Reception in High River
From there it was off to the Highwood Centre in High River, a beautiful and historic venue located right in the heart of town. We filmed some of the cocktail hour and guests mingling before the wedding party arrived and the evenings festivities began. Brittney and Kolton both said they wanted their wedding to be a party, and that’s exactly how it turned out.
