Sirocco Golf Club Wedding in Calgary

Thank you Donald Trump! That’s the first time anybody ever said that at a wedding we’d filmed. But that mysterious line is at the core of how Tania and Justin were able to move from a great first date to having their Sirocco Golf Club wedding. Like so many other couples in recent years, they’d had to postpone a number of times.

Getting ready in Calgary

Justin stayed at the home that he and Tania own to get ready, while Tania chose to do the same at her parents’ home in Sundance. Wanting to make the most of the day, they opted to have a first look followed by an intimate exchange of personal vows at Lake Sundance, in the city’s southeast. The plan then was for family photos at the same location, before heading to Sirocco for the full ceremony. With weather threatening on the western horizon, as it often does late in the day in summer, timings were pushed forward.

Things didn’t look good at Sirocco. It was pouring rain in Okotoks and Calgary. The weather radar app showed more rain moving toward Sirocco. A decision had to be made whether or not to move indoors. But for some reason the weather get splitting north and south, avoiding the golf club. They decided to stick with the outdoor ceremony.

To be honest, the decision surprised almost everyone. But Tania’s Dad was adamant that things would work out. And as it turned out, he was right. Instead of rain, the clouds parted and the sun appeared. We could see the storm clouds everywhere else, but not at Sirocco. A few worried looks, and then Lily String Quartet began playing as the ceremony got underway.

As it turned out, the rain never came at all. Ceremony complete, the wedding party formed a receiving line for guests, followed by more family photos. The reception followed inside the club house, with windows on all sides providing stunning views of the surrounding rolling, green hills. A rare treat was having a live band playing at the reception, with Tania’s mother joining them during the father/daughter dance for a very touching moment.
